A child actress grown up (and out) in mysteriously sexy ways, Fairuza Balk started her screen career at eleven, starring as Dorothy in Return to Oz
(1985). Fairuza means turquoise in Persian, and she gave her fans turquoise balls while playing a loose convent girl in Milos Forman's Valmont (1989).
But Fairuza showed her true colors as Shade, the sensitive girl in Gas, Food, Lodging (1992). She snared further cult status with her starring role as
a psychotic goth-girl witch in The Craft (1996). Fairuza went mainstream playing the girlfriend of Adam Sandler in the smash comedy The Waterboy (1998)
and the girlfriend of neo-Nazi Edward Norton in American History X (1998). And she made us all sticky as a band-aid in the seventies cock-rock epic
Almost Famous (2000). Fairuza is at her fairiskiest in American History X (1998) showing her white-powerful body in an intense sex scene. Sieg, hottie!
Skinfo: Fairuza was supposed to be cast as an FBI agent out to trick Drea de Matteo's character on The Sopranos in the last episode of the third season.
For reasons no one can seem to fathom, the part was played by Lola Glaudini.
Quote: "It's more fun to be the bad guy and go nuts than to be pretty and perfect, you know? Like I could do that anyway. I'm not built that way.
That would probably be the hardest thing for me to do . . . That to me would be the most psychotic."
